Tyson Foods Inc. Recalls Chicken Product Due To Possible Adulteration – 11/18/15

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17, 2015 – Tyson Foods Inc., a Pine Bluff, Ark. establishment, is recalling approximately 52,486 pounds of chicken wing product that may be adulterated because of having an “off odor” scent, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The fully cooked buffalo style chicken wing section item was produced on October 24, 2015 and October 25, 2015. The following product is subject to recall: [Labels (PDF Only)]

  • 28-oz. retail bags containing multiple pieces of “Tyson® Any’tizers® Fully Cooked Hot Wings® CHICKEN WING SECTIONS COATED WITH A FLAVORFUL HOT, TANGY SAUCE” with use by/sell by dates of October 24, 2016 and October 25, 2016, packaging dates 2975PBF0508-23/2985PBF0500-01 and case codes 2975PBF0508-23/2985PBF0500-01.

The product subject to recall bear establishment number “P-13456” inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as on the back of the bag above the heating instructions. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered when Tyson Foods Inc. received consumer complaints about the product being “off-odor” as well mild illness associated with consumption. After these consumer complaints, Tysons Food Inc. brought this to the attention of FSIS.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products by FSIS. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

SpaghettiOs Original 14.2oz Cans Recalled Due to Potential Choking Hazard – 11/18/15

Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) is voluntarily recalling 14.2 ounce cans of SpaghettiOs Original due to a potential choking hazard posed by pieces of red plastic found in a small number of cans. This plastic material is from parts of the can lining which may peel off.

The affected 14.2 ounce SpaghettiOs Original product has a date of February 22, 2017 which is stamped on the base of the can, and a UPC code of 51000 22432 printed under the bar code.

The issue was identified after the company received consumer complaints.

This recall affects 355,000 cans and is limited to the United States.

This product should not be eaten. People who have bought the affected product should return it to the store where it was purchased for an exchange or full refund. Homestat Farm Recalls Organic Steel Cut Oats & Chia With Flax And Rye Flakes Because Of Possible Health Risk – 11/17/15

Homestat Farm of Dublin, OH is recalling some of its 42-ounce packages only of “Organic Steel Cut Oats & Chia with Flax And Rye Flakes” because the flax seed ingredient has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled “Organic Steel Cut Oats & Chia with Flax And Rye Flakes” was distributed on a limited basis in Sams Club retail stores located in AK, CA, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, MD, MI, MN, MS, NC, NH, OH, PA & TX.

The product comes in a 42 ounce carton UPC 8 35882 00620 4 marked with Best Buy: 03/16/17-1, 03/16/18-1, 03/19/17-1, 03/19/17-2, 03/23/17-1, 03/23/17-2, 03/24/17-1, 03/26/17-1, 03/26/17-2, 04/08/17-2. The best buy date can be found embossed on the bottom flap of box next to the bar code.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

A supplier informed Homestat Farm of this after a contamination was found in flax seed provided to another customer.

Trader Joe’s Issues Voluntary Allergy Alert on Tree Nuts In Trader Giotto’s Butternut Squash Triangoli – 11/16/15

Trader Joe’s of Monrovia, California is voluntarily recalling Trader Giotto’s Butternut Squash Triangoli (UPC 00943482/SKU 94348) sold in the refrigerated deli section with “Use or Freeze by” codes 04 16 15 through 01 15 16, because it may contain undeclared tree nuts. All affected product has been removed from store shelves. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to tree nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The Trader Giotto’s Butternut Squash Triangoli is packaged in an 8.8 oz. package, with code information printed on the upper-right corner of the front of the package. The product was distributed to Trader Joe’s stores nationwide. Trader Joe’s initiated the voluntary removal of this product after customers reported having an allergic reaction after consuming the product. The customers are allergic to tree nuts, which are not an intended ingredient in this product.

Cloverdale Foods Company Recalls Beef and Pork Product Due to Misbranding and Undeclared Allergen – 11/10/15

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2015 – Cloverdale Foods Company, a Mandan, ND, establishment, is recalling approximately 5,208 pounds of beef and pork jalapeño cheddar bratwurst product due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The product was incorrectly labeled as beef frankfurters and contains milk, a known allergen which is not declared on the product label.

The beef and pork bratwurst product was produced on Sept. 21, 2015, and Oct. 2, 2015. The following product is subject to recall:

  • 10 oz. packages labeled as “TETON WATERS RANCH UNCURED BEEF FRANKFURTERS” with the use by dates of  “12/5/15” and “12/16/15”

The product subject to recall bears establishment number “EST. 7603” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to three distributors and then distributed nationwide.

The problem was discovered by a consignee of Cloverdale Foods Company during a store audit. The company then notified FSIS.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

World Variety Produce, Inc. Voluntarily Recalls Italian Pine Nuts Because of Possible Health Risk – 11/10/15

The recall was a result of a routine random sampling program by the FDA which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria. The company has ceased the production and distribution of the product as the FDA and World Variety Produce, Inc. continue their investigation as to what caused the problem.

Kozy Shack Enterprises LLC is recalling one lot of Kozy Shack® Indulgent Recipe™ Pudding in a Salted Caramel cardboard sleeve because it may contain Vanilla Bean Pudding cups, which contain egg. The Salted Caramel cardboard sleeve does not include egg in the ingredient statement. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

Hormel Foods Sales LLC Voluntarily Recalls a Limited Number of Jars of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread Due to Possible Metal Pieces – 11/3/15

Hormel Foods Sales LLC is voluntarily recalling 153 cases, or 1,871 total pounds, of a single code date of SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, due to the possibility that some jars may contain small pieces of metal shavings which were discovered on an in-line magnet check during routine cleaning. Foodborne objects that are greater than 7mm in length may cause injury such as severe choking with airway obstruction, gastrointestinal peroration or secondary infection. The recalled product is limited to 16.3 ounce jars with a “Best If Used By” date of DEC1416LR1 with a package UPC code of 37600-10500. The code date is located on top of the lid. A photo of the product and “Best If Used By” date appears below. Recalled product was sent to distribution centers for Publix, Target and Walmart located in Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware and Arkansas.

The company is issuing the recall to ensure that consumers are made aware of the potential hazard. No reports have been received to date of any consumer injuries or complaints.

No other sizes, varieties or other packaging configurations of SKIPPY® brand peanut butter or peanut spreads are included in this recall.

UPC Correction: David Trail Mix Sweet & Salty Voluntarily Recalled Due To Undeclared Dairy Allergen – 11/2/15

DAVID® Trail Mix Sweet & Salty flavor is being voluntarily recalled by ConAgra Foods of Omaha, Nebraska, due to the presence of an ingredient in the trail mix that contains milk protein, which is not declared on the packaging.

The finished product is made for ConAgra Foods by a third party supplier who is conducting a separate recall for similar, impacted products.

This food is a concern for people who are allergic to milk. People who have allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the product. ConAgra Foods was made aware of this issue through a consumer contact. ConAgra Foods is aware of one consumer allergic reaction associated with consumption of this product.

ConAgra Foods is advising consumers who have purchased this item to discard it or return it to the store where originally purchased.

This recall includes the following DAVID Trail Mix Sweet & Salty products sold as part of multi variety packages that also contain DAVID Trail Mix Classic. DAVID Trail Mix Classic is not impacted by this recall.

The DAVID Trail Mix Sweet & Salty UPC is: 26200 23885, 5oz. bags/149g.

The product was shipped to retail food stores and distributors in the U.S. and Mexico. ConAgra Foods is working with retail customers and distributors to ensure the packages are removed from store shelves.

This recall is limited to DAVID Trail Mix Sweet & Salty flavor only and does not impact other flavors of DAVID Trail Mix or any DAVID Seeds products.

Skinny Latina Foods, Inc. Issues Recall for Undeclared Soy (Million Dollar Marinade) – 11/2/15

Skinny Latina Foods, Inc. Miami, Florida is recalling all bottles of the following product due to undeclared soy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious life threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

The product is only sold in clear, 12 oz glass bottles. Each product is labeled with a “Best By” date on the back label. The recall is for all of the individual bottles with the “Best By” date of 12-15-15 or before (earlier), and which do not have corrected labels indicating that the product contains soy.

The recalled products were distributed in retail stores nationwide.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that product containing soy within the gluten-free teriyaki sauce ingredient of the product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of the soy allergen on the label.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration have been notified of this voluntary recall.
