Individual Volunteer Opportunities:
Join Our Volunteer Community!

MANNA FoodBank distributes enough food through our partner agencies to provide 45,000 meals every day. This year-round effort takes tremendous community support to achieve. Volunteers are at the very heart of our operations, helping us stretch each dollar as far as it can go. Thanks to our volunteers, every $1 donated helps to provide the food for 4 meals.

Getting Started

New Volunteers

STEP 1: Create a volunteer profile.

STEP 2: Watch our videos and read through the volunteer handbook at your convenience.

STEP 3: Register for our Virtual Volunteer Orientation. Orientations are now required by everyone in order to volunteer at MANNA. They are being offered on a bi-weekly basis and will take approximately 30-45 minutes of your time.

Volunteering at MANNA: What to Expect

As an individual volunteer, you work alongside other MANNA volunteers towards the common goal of supporting our neighbors in need and ending hunger in Western North Carolina. MANNA could not serve the more than 100,000 people per month that have been affected by food insecurity without our incredible volunteers.

COVID-19 Volunteer Information

Your health and safety and that of our entire volunteer/staff community remains our top priority. Therefore, all those volunteering for MANNA must be fully vaccinated, unless you have a religious or medical exemption. If you are not vaccinated, we thank you very much for your interest in helping us to get food to those who need it most, and kindly ask you to please check back in with us in the future. Please read through our current COVID-19 safety practices to decide if volunteering at MANNA feels like an acceptable level of risk for you at this time.

Warehouse Volunteer Center Projects

Our biggest need is in our Volunteer Center, where volunteers help with our daily projects.

We offer warehouse shifts Monday-Friday, 9:00AM-12:00PM, M/W/F from 1-3:30PM, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1-3PM and 4:15-5:30PM.

Projects Include:

  • Repackaging healthy food purchased in bulk, such as pasta, rice, and beans,
  • Creating emergency food boxes for distribution to those who need it most,
  • Culling and repackaging fresh produce,
  • Packaging MANNA Packs and Summer Packs for Kids, and
  • Sorting donated product for distribution to our partner agencies.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

We always encourage volunteers to start by trying a shift in our Volunteer Center to learn more about our daily operations. We have volunteer roles in nearly every department at MANNA. If you are interested in learning about other volunteer roles and opportunities, you can see a list of specialized volunteer roles here.
